Tim Congdon

Economist, University of Buckingham

Tim Congdon is an economist and businessman, who has for over 30 years been one of the UK’s most prominent advocates of sound money and free markets. He is often regarded as the UK’s leading ‘monetarist’ economist. Although most of his career was spent as an economist in the City of London, he has been a visiting professor at the Cardiff Business School and the City University Business School (now Cass Business School). He has recently been appointed a professor of economics at the University of Buckingham where he is setting up a new research institute, the Institute of International Monetary Research. Following his work on the Treasury Panel of Independent Forecasters (‘the wise men’) between 1993 and 1997, he was appointed CBE for services to economic debate in 1997.
