Gary Dorrien

Dr. Gary Dorrien is the Reinhold Niebuhr Professor of Social Ethics at Union Theological Seminary and Professor of Religion at Columbia University. An Episcopal priest, he is the author of 20 books, including Kantian Reason and Hegelian Spirit, which won the PROSE Award in 2013, The New Abolition, which won the Grawmeyer Award in 2017, and Breaking White Supremacy, which won the American Library Association Award in 2019. His latest book is In a Post-Hegelian Spirit: Philosophical Theology as Idealistic Discontent. Philosopher Cornel West describes him as “the preeminent social ethicist in North America today.”
