Joshua Hochschild

Philosophy, Mount St. Mary's

Dr. Joshua Hochschild is Professor of Philosophy and Director of Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at Mount St. Mary’s University, where from 2009-2015 he also served as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts. Dr. Hochschild’s primary scholarly research is medieval logic and metaphysics, but he has published and lectured on a variety of subjects including the history of ethics, Catholic social thought, urban planning, natural law, globalization, and John Henry Newman. His essays and reviews have appeared in Commonweal, First Things, Modern Age and The Wall Street Journal, and he has published and consulted on various higher education policy areas including core curriculum design, speakers’ policies, hiring for mission, faculty development, and religious identity. Dr. Hochschild is Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the American Academy of Liberal Education, and for 2020-21 he was President of the American Catholic Philosophical Association.
