Mr. Binyamin Appelbaum writes about economics and business for the editorial page of The New York Times. From 2010 to 2019, he was a Washington correspondent for the Times, covering economic policy in the aftermath of the 2008 crisis. He also worked for The Charlotte Observer, where he led investigations into predatory lending and the rise of foreclosures. For his work on these investigations, he won a George Polk Award and was a finalist for the 2008 Pulitzer Prize. The next year—the very week the government seized Fannie and Freddie Mac—he joined The Washington Post to cover financial regulation. Mr. Appelbaum has also worked for The Florida Times-Union and The Boston Globe. His first book, The Economists’ Hour, was published by Little Brown in September.
